Checkmate Cafe is a set of multiplayer board games (chess, checkers and Chinese checkers) that runs as a Discord Activity and in a web browser. It is run by the developer of Checkmate Cafe (“we”). This page explains what the games keep about you and why.
If you play inside Discord
When you launch the game, Discord asks you to let it share your basic account details (the identify permission). We use them to show who is at the table and to keep your progress. We store:
- your Discord user ID, display name and a link to your avatar image;
- your experience points, level, and your games played, won and drawn, kept separately for each game;
- your wins, draws, games and experience within each Discord server or group chat where you played, stored with that server's or chat's ID, so its leaderboard can show you.
We don't get your email address, your messages, your friends list or your voice. The game checks with Discord that you are really in the Activity you joined and which server it runs in, so everyone lands at the same table and results go to the right leaderboard.
Other players at your table and on your server's leaderboard can see your display name, avatar, level and results.
If you play in a browser
Browser tables need no account. The name you type and your moves live only on the game server while the table is open, and nothing about a browser player is saved after that.
Stored on your device
Your browser keeps your settings (sound, graphics quality, camera and similar), the name you last used, and a random key that lets you get your seat back if you reconnect. You can clear them at any time through your browser or Discord.
Logs and error reports
Our hosting provider, Railway, keeps short-lived server logs. If the game hits an error in your browser, it sends a short technical description of the error to those logs. They don't contain your Discord details.
Who processes the data
The game runs on Railway, and Discord provides sign-in and the Activity itself under Discord's privacy policy. We don't sell your data, show ads or use any analytics or tracking services.
How long we keep it
Progress is kept while the game runs so your level and leaderboard standing carry over. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Deleting your data
Email menoachcoach@gmail.com from any address and include your Discord username or user ID. We'll delete your progress and leaderboard entries and confirm when it's done, usually within 30 days.
Children
The game is meant for people old enough to use Discord under Discord's own rules. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
